  • When we say “rough opening,” we’re referring to the entire space where the door will be installed.

This space is normally around 2 inches wider and 2.5 inches taller than the actual door. This gives ample room for the door to be framed in order to fit the space.

  • Sidelights are the long, narrow windows that are directly adjacent to the door itself.

  • A transom (transom window) is the customary U.S. word for a transom light, the window directly over the door.

  • From the time you order your door:

  • TDL stands for True Divided Light. These doors have separate panes of glass separated by mutines or grilles.

SDL (or LT) stands for Single Pane Divided Light. These doors are made with a single pane of glass with the mutines or grilles applied to the exterior + interior of the glass.

Doors built with the DP50 plus Impact Rating must have a single pane of glass.

  • This is dependent on the climate you live in. People living in Coastal areas, or areas that experience Hurricanes or high winds, normally go with an outward swing.

People living in areas with high snowfall usually choose an inward swing. That way they can still open their door after a large snowfall.

  • This depends…
